The gold standard of Zenith chronographs

One of the areas in which Zenith manifests itself especially vividly is chronographs. After many world premieres and records, the Manufactory presents a new Master of Chronographs platform Since 1865, designed to familiarize a wide audience with the science and art of making chronographs.

The first Master of Chronographs exhibition Since 1865, telling about the unique history of Zenith chronographs, was presented at Watches & Wonders. There are 15 rare historical specimens on display, from the end of the XIX century to the present day. As part of the Zenith exhibition, a rethought Chronomaster Open line was shown, as well as new Chronomaster Sport models. Here are a few facts worth knowing about the new Zenith Chronomaster Sport chronograph.

The gold standard of chronographs

Gold chronographs, which appeared even before the caliber of El Primero, occupy a special place in the history of Zenith. Combining technology and jewelry, the company creates Chronomaster Sport watches made entirely of rose gold, including a bracelet and an engraved bezel with a 1/10 second counter scale. The Chronomaster Sport has a black or white dial and the iconic three-color El Primero counters, complemented by gold hands and overhead hour markers. The watch is made of rose gold with a matte and polished finish that enhances the radiance of the precious metal.

Now Chronomaster Sport watches are also available in a two-ton version, combining the strength of stainless steel and the beauty of rose gold, with a tricolor silver dial with a «sun rays» pattern.

A model with an engraved ceramic bezel consisting of three ceramic elements of the traditional colors for El Primero — gray, anthracite and blue — was presented at the Watches & Wonders salon. The elements are connected without seams and form a single whole

Conceptual design

The original character of the avant-garde mechanisms is emphasized by a completely new, conceptual design. Unlike the 2003 model with an open dial, in the new version of the Chronomaster Open, the mechanical «heart» is even more highlighted by the play of light, which allows you to fully see the craftsmanship in the manufacture of high-frequency chronographs.

The case made of steel or rose gold, the diameter of which is reduced to 39.5 mm, reproduces the famous partially open tricolor dial. The element of hezalite glass applied to the dial acts as an indicator and at the same time opens up a view of the star-shaped silicon anchor wheel. The overhead frame used in previous models has been replaced with circular windows with beveled edges, through which the mechanism with straighter bridges of the current gray shade is viewed.

Mechanism

The new El Primero 3604 mechanism is based on the El Primero 3600 automatic high-frequency calibre with a measurement accuracy of up to 1/10 of a second, but differs from it in a more open architecture. The new Chronomaster Open model demonstrates the aesthetic and technical solutions of the Chronomaster collection of the new generation. A modern interpretation of the famous Zenith El Primero chronograph, in which both the sporty elegance of the Chronomaster Sport line and the spirit of the Chronomaster Original collection inspired by historical models are felt.
