Favorite pendants and bracelets of the British aristocracy

Important events in the life of members of the British royal family, as a rule, receive a physical reminder in the form of jewelry. We have already compiled a precious inventory of gifts presented by Prince William to Kate Middleton during their relationship, talked about the double brooch of Elizabeth II and the wedding tiara of Meghan Markle.

Today we propose to focus not on the treasures of the crown, but on items in which aristocrats appear more often than others and which have sentimental meaning: pendants and bracelets marked with personal initials, coats of arms and symbols of their happy owners.

A special place in Kate Middleton’s casket is occupied by a pendant with three medallions on which the names of her children are engraved: George, Charlotte and Louis. The last time we saw the decoration on the Duchess’s neck was during a meeting with her London parents in Battersea Park.

This is not the only pendant dedicated to children in the collection of the Duchess of Cambridge. From time to time, she is noticed in a customized decoration of the British jewelry brand Daniella Draper, made of gold and complemented with three diamonds and engraving.

Among the jewelry of Princess Beatrice, the iconic Cartier bracelet from the Juste Un Clou collection stands out. The main feature of the golden nail is its head, on which the letter E is engraved. One could joke that the initial is dedicated to Eugenia, the younger sister of the princess, but most likely the addressee was Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, whom Beatrice married in July of this year.

The choker with the golden letter D was present in the arsenal of the future princess even before the wedding. After officially joining the royal family, Lady Di’s jewelry box has become much larger, and the choice of jewelry has become wider. Nevertheless, she did not abandon the modest decoration in its simplicity even after marrying the heir to the British throne. In the photos below, Princess Diana is depicted in a choker with an initial during the 1985 Australian tour.

In 2016, with the help of this laconic pendant, Meghan Markle confirmed her romance with Prince Harry without words. The authors of the decoration were a small Montreal jewelry brand The Right Hand Gal. There is a funny story behind its creation: after receiving an order for a customized suspension during the busy holiday season, the founding sisters refused, fearing that they would not meet the deadlines. However, after learning the name of the customer, they changed their mind, than they made an excellent advertisement for their brand.

A similar pendant — the letter A on a gold chain — appeared in Megan after the birth of her son Archie.

By the way, in the book «In search of Freedom» a separate paragraph is devoted to jewelry. According to him, the palace did not approve of the Duchess of Sussex’s love for pendants with initials and asked to refuse to wear them so as not to provoke paparazzi.
