Moving to Milan as a teenager had a profound impact on Emilia Wickstead’s design aesthetic. She was fascinated by the architecture of the city and the style of Milanese women, whose images combined tradition and austerity with femininity and restrained chic.

In the autumn-winter 2022 season, the designer recreates a muse from the past who lives here and now. At the same time, the season is also a love letter to director Michelangelo Antonioni. His mesmerizing visual vocabulary combined the imposing modernist architecture of mid-century Italy with the elegance of the fashionable bourgeoisie. Special attention is paid to two Antonioni films: L’Avventura (1960) and La Notte (1961). Their main character, actress Monica Vitti, also became a source of inspiration for Wickstead.

The boundaries between daytime and evening wear, men’s and women’s in the Emilia Wickstead collection are completely erased. On the catwalk we saw both strict pantsuits, and luxurious dresses with a lush hem, crop tops and pencil skirts, dresses with a peplum, long coats of men’s cut, strict shirts and capes. As for the color scheme, here Wiksted preferred restrained shades with rare inserts of bright colors and a checkerboard print.
