A beautiful curtsey towards the history of the British royal family

Important events in the life of the British royal family, be it engagements, weddings, births and christenings of children, anniversaries and other significant milestones, are usually celebrated with photos. And the 40th anniversary of the Duchess of Cambridge, of course, was no exception. In honor of Kate Middleton’s birthday, the palace has published three new portraits reminiscent of the famous works of Cecil Beaton, a photographer famous for portraits of Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret. In addition, in the «vintage» pictures, references to the pre-Raphaelites, the portraitist Julia Margaret Cameron and Alice in Wonderland are guessed, which is not surprising, given that Kate studied art history at university.

Homage to British history was continued by dresses, perhaps, by the most English designer Alexander McQueen (do you remember what bewilderment Meghan Markle’s engagement pictures in a Ralph & Russo outfit caused?), as well as jewelry with a special meaning.

In one of the pictures, the Duchess poses in hanging diamond earrings that previously belonged to Queen Elizabeth. This is not the first time she has been spotted wearing an ornament that the reigning monarch, apparently, handed over to Kate for permanent use.

In another photo, the Duchess of Cambridge appeared in an equally sentimental item — Princess Diana’s earrings, which she received as a wedding gift from the Collingwood Jewellers jewelry company.
